Eighteen Sound 10CX650

Eighteen Sound 10CX650 is a 10 ″ (woofer) and 1 ″ (driver) coaxial transducer designed for use in compact SLR boxes and small stage monitors with a volume of up to 30 liters, with a nominal dispersion of 90 °.
The single magnet structure in high strength ferrite makes the 10CX650 a light speaker for the performance class to which it belongs, with its only 6 kg.

The Woofer

The 65 mm (2.5 ″) coil uses  ISV (Interleaved Sandwich Voice coil) technology , in which the high-strength fiberglass trainer supports the windings both on the external and internal surface. All this to obtain a balanced coil with a uniform distribution of mass and movement energy. In fact, this translates into an extremely linear motor unit.
The low profile curved membrane offers a homogeneous response throughout the range of working frequencies and maximum reliability under high mechanical stress.

The driver

Equipped with a proprietary hybrid radial power factor correction, the compression driver integrated in the 10CX650 is designed to offer a consistent and homogeneous wavefront already at the entrance of the horn. This occurs for all frequencies reproduced by the driver. The power factor corrector ensures very low distortion and significant improvements in the reproduction of medium-high frequencies. A copper ring reduces the inductance values, improving the linearization of phase and impedance.

The diaphragm is made of a treated polyethylene material. Thanks to its dimensional stability, polyethylene exhibits consistent behavior throughout its useful life. Furthermore, this particular material, with its very high modulus of elasticity, is able to provide a superior transient response. The flat shape of the suspension ensures low rigidity and low distortion even at medium-low frequencies.

A moving aluminum coil wound on treated Nomex completes the diaphragm assembly. Thanks to its physical properties, the treated Nomex shows an elongation value increased by 30% compared to Kapton. This function allows the correct control of the transfer of energy from the moving coil to the dome in real working conditions. In addition, this material is suitable for use in humid and wet environments.
A particular design of the driver's throat was also chosen, maximizing the coupling to the cone profile
